  “I’m ready now. I wasn’t ready a couple of weeks ago. It wasn’t until I saw that article and wanted to die that I realized I loved you. I knew I wanted you. I knew I needed to be with you. I knew I didn’t feel like I was breathing until I was with you, but I didn’t know that was love. I’ve never been in love before. I didn’t know the feeling until I thought you’d used me for the story.”

  His voice was gruff. “The last thing I wanted to do was hurt you.”

  “I know. And I didn’t want to hurt you. I’m ready to accept how I feel. I want to be with you, Ryan. I have missed you so much.”

  He didn’t say anything, and a niggling slice of worry, had her adding, “That is, if you still want me.”

  Slowly, he dragged his head up. His eyes glittered, and he slid a hand up to cup her jaw. “Hell yes, I still want you.”

  “Then I’m yours.”

  The kiss he delivered was long and lingering. His tongue slid into her mouth. Against her belly, she felt the hot, hard length of him as she looped her arms around his neck.

  But he pulled back abruptly. Harsh breaths tore from his lungs. “I always seem to get so carried away with you.” He kissed her briefly again before lifting his head. “And it’s your birthday. Your family is waiting to celebrate with you.”

  For once, Mia didn’t feel like following the rules. She pressed her body into his.

  He hissed. “Mia?”

  “They can wait.”

  A slow smile tugged at his lips. “I love a woman who knows what she wants.”

  She leaned into the man she loved but hesitated before she kissed him. Her siblings were still being nosy. “Now would be a good time to scatter before things get awfully uncomfortable for you.”

  There was some muffled laughter on the other side of the door, along with a few grumbles and a couple mutters of “eww.”

  When she was satisfied they’d all dispersed, she turned her attention back to Ryan. “Oh, yeah, where were we?”

  “I was about to show you how much I love you.”
